Silver designer jewellery is the biggest trend in fashion as the market moves to reflect the current economic climate.
Retail Jeweller’s Shanon Hutchinson said that silver buy gold in dubai jewellery was becoming more popular than gold and statement pieces because people were feeling the pinch following Christmas shopping and the rise in value added tax (VAT).
The precious metals market is fluctuating in price with the value of gold on the increase so jewellery designers are likely to create silver charms and trinkets that are affordable to a mass customer base.
Consumers also have less disposable income to spend on luxury items such as designer jewellery since VAT increased from 17.5 per cent to 20 per cent in early January in a bid to reduce the national debt.
Jewellery designer Ana De Costa told Retail Jeweller that it is important to adapt to economic pressures in order to remain popular with jewellery buying customers who have been affected by the troubled economy.
She told Ms Hutchinson: “With the high prices in gold, creatives and jewellers need to be flexible and move their work with the times.”
Other jewellery designers appear to be following De Costa’s lead by creating original pieces using varieties of silver rather than promoting the metal as an affordable alternative to gold and platinum pieces.
